It’s been a busy month for us here at ShareTextures as we’ve been hard at work scanning physical samples of fabrics and woods. Let me share with you what we’ve been up to.

Generating textures from fabric samples is usually straightforward once the scanning is done. We’ve been using a technique called photometric stereo to capture data of color, normal, and height. However, we hit a snag when our scanning equipment broke during our studio move. Without it, we’ve had to manually adjust the lighting around the samples, making the process a bit trickier than usual.

Despite the challenges, we’ve managed to create usable scans, although some aren’t up to our usual standards. Nevertheless, they’ll still work well for close-up renders or smaller models like pillows and ottomans.

On a positive note, I’m excited to announce that our free fabric textures library now contains over 300 assets! But while we’re celebrating this milestone, we’re also aware of the need to expand our collection.

That’s why we’re planning to venture outside to scan materials like ground or roads. Our current library lacks these resources, and we’re eager to fill that gap.

We’re committed to providing you with top-quality assets to fuel your creativity, and we hope you’re enjoying what we’ve created so far.

I’ve been a bit dissatisfied with our Blog section for a while. It used to only feature articles that were primarily focused on SEO.

Only a limited number of people would actually read it but this current version is an improvement from the previous one. I’ve already added a few posts that were taken from the Discord announcement channel.
